Entering the driving world can seem quite daunting, but as soon as you talk to a driver, the doors will open. You may have a friend who drives or have seen a display or competition. The first practical step to get a feel for the thrill is to get on the back of a carriage, without the responsibility of control and direction! There are many Clubs all around the UK where you can find an introduction to the sport. To find a Club in your area log on to www.horsedrivingtrials.co.uk where you will find a full list.
There is also a dedicated group of Sports Drivers providing opportunities to ‘Try Driving’. Sessions are held throughout the year, contact us for more details.

So you’ve got your driving pony, carriage and groom and you want to take the next step ......?! A great way to start competing is by going to an Indoor Driving event. These are held throughout the autumn and winter season, culminating in a National Championship at the end of March. They are usually held in one day and comprise a short dressage test, small cones course and 4 obstacles. Other drivers are always on hand to help with problems and the area being enclosed makes it far less intimidating than open countryside for a beginner. It’s also a good environment for small ponies who may not be big enough or fit enough for an outdoor competition yet. For more details check out your local club or the Indoor Carriage Driving Company.
